This week's poll on whether Christ can be proven from history to be a legitimate historical figure, gave evidence that most of you believe Christ is found in history outside the Bible. The question is do you know where? Let me introduce Flavius Josephus a Jewish historian during the time of the birth of "Christianity". A man loyal to the Roman Empire, hated by his Jewish brethren, and eye witness to the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. He is quoted by secular historians to give evidence for historical figures such as Julius Caesar. He says this from an excerpt about Jesus:
"Now there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man; for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews and many of the Gentiles. He was [the] Christ. And when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men amongst us, had condemned him to the cross, those that loved him at the first did not forsake him; for he appeared to them alive again the third day; as the divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him. And the tribe of Christians, so named from him, are not extinct at this day."
There are literally dozens of others that, in their writings of letters and such, give testimony that a "man" known as "Jesus of Nazareth" was executed despite his kind and miraculous acts. Many of these writings, such as that of Josephus, not only speak of Jesus's life and death, but also of his resurrection. The point: know why you believe what you believe; and, our faith is not a fairy tale. It was not "a long long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away". If it really did happen, we should live like it...
